The Inevitable

It has finally happened: my housemate has Covid-19! I don’t know what I expected. Aside from my fear of getting sick with it, I am absolutely thrilled about self-isolating for at least the next 2 weeks.

My infected housemate won’t remain in their own space, so the rest of us (none of whom have tested positive) will need to remain in our rooms instead. It sucks, as multiple people in the house are immunocompromised or otherwise vulnerable.

The Haul

Some of my purchase

I’m extremely lucky to be in a relatively stable situation to isolate in and have the ability to WFH. In preparation for two weeks cramped up in a bedroom without kitchen access, I’ve ordered an electric hot pot and a bunch of food from the local supermarket. I was quite surprised that they delivered only 30 minutes after my order. It was pretty neat! I decided to try a bunch of different types of instant noodles I’ve not had before, and I might post some reviews here.

I ended up buying a bunch of hot and sour and black bean noodles not because I especially like them, but because I suck at reading. I’ve never even had either flavour before, so if I hate them, well, this fortnight is gonna suck. I spent about the equivalent of 35 USD on this, so comme si comme ça.

  • Shi Zu Ren - Hot & Sour Vermiceli (Liubaoliao)
  • Liziqi Instant Chili Noodles
  • Baijia Chongqing Noodles Spicy Hot Flavor
  • Baijia Instant Vermicelli - Hot & Sour Flavour
  • Nongshim Ansungtangmyun Instant Noodle Soup
  • Nongshim Chapagetti Chajangmyun
  • Paldo Jjajangmen Bowl Noodles
  • Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen

I also bought some palmiers (my favourites) and kimchi as a final ditch effort at boosting my immune system. This was my first time ordering in Chinese, too (for context, I have been learning for a few months now). I used a translation service a lot and ask some friends for help, but everything worked out in the end, so I was pretty happy! The driver delivering my order forgot to take my money, which was funny as I had no idea what to do – he put the food down at the gate, said “你好!”, and drove off in about 10 seconds flat. I stood there for about two minutes as he kept circling the street, I was sure he was going to stop but never did even though I waved a few times to try and flag him down. I probably looked stupid.

Who knows?

(Thanks for the cute Pikachu, it cheered me up a lot)
